Early Childhood Program

Good Shepherd School’s early childhood program offers a preschool (for 3 year olds) and pre-K (for 4 year olds) kindergarten readiness curriculum that is available with a “short day (7:50 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.)” or “full day (7:50 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.)” option five days per week. Preschool and pre-K students are also able to attend after school care each day from 2:45 until 5:30.

Our early childhood classes are capped at a maximum of just 20 students and housed on the first floor of our building.  Our early childhood classes are taught by full time, PA certified teacher and an aide throughout the school day. This two-person team provides students with a wealth of learning experiences while reinforcing Catholic values from Church and home. Students are taught in both large and small groups throughout the school day and exposed to a variety of learning experiences.

This program serves as a natural feeder to our kindergarten which enjoys an outstanding reputation in the area. Parents are well informed of class learning objectives and the progress their student makes as they develop their skills. Students staying for our full-day program participate in our “specials” classes of Spanish, art, technology, music, and physical education in addition to our morning core curriculum.

The early childhood program follows the Good Shepherd School calendar (except begins one day after grades 1-8 in August and ends one day earlier in June).

To be eligible for our Pre-K program, students must be 3 years old by September 30th. All students must also be potty-trained and able to use the restroom by themselves prior to the start of their school year. While our early childhood program is open to everyone in our community, we hope to fill as many of our limited early childhood seats with current Good Shepherd community members. First preference will be given to current Good Shepherd School parents, then to Good Shepherd Parishioners, and finally to those not currently affiliated with Good Shepherd Parish.
