Yesterday I made a trip to Holy Spirit Hospital with six 5th graders to deliver handmade cards to patients and let them know that students at Good Shepherd are praying for them and wishing them a happy Thanksgiving. It was a great visit and our students were wonderful at making each patient feel special. Our students represented their families and our school so well.
The Catholic Witness will be writing a story about our visit and our partnership with Holy Spirit Hospital in an upcoming issue. We were met at Holy Spirit by the editor of the Catholic Witness and their staff photographer. In addition to visiting to deliver cards, Good Shepherd student artwork is on display it the new children’s wing of Holy Spirit Hospital, we are initiating a Prayer Partner Program with Holy Spirit Staff, and Holy Spirit will be providing guest speakers to visit the school to discuss health and science related topics.
Good Shepherd School students will be visiting Holy Spirit Hospital twice in December to spread Christmas cheer. On December 15, our 3rd grade class will go caroling throughout the hospital for patients and staff. On December 17, our 7th grade class and 5th and 6th grade choir members will perform prior at Holy Spirit Hospital’s monthly leadership meeting (our kindergarten sang last year and was a big hit).
Service is an important element of the mission of our Good Shepherd School. It is great to see our students serving their community and making a positive impact. Earlier today, during our all school Thanksgiving prayers service, hundreds and hundreds of canned and packaged foods were donated by Good Shepherd families to help others in need.
Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!
