About Good Shepherd School

Good Shepherd Elementary School is one of 38 Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Harrisburg. It has been in existence since September 1, 1953. The school opened with 121 students, 4 classrooms and 4 teachers (Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters). It has grown to presently serving approximately 300 students in classes from Kindergarten to 8th grade. The school has double room classes for each grade. The new Good Shepherd Parish Education Center, adjacent to our original home was dedicated on August 12, 2007. Our new school offers enhanced science lab facilities, an updated computer lab and state of the art technology in each classroom.

Good Shepherd Elementary School is open to all students, regardless of race, color, creed or ethnic origin. The school has 22 classrooms and provides education in the following core subject areas: Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies and Religion. Computer Training, Art, Music, Physical Education and Health classes are also offered weekly for each grade.

The Middle States Commission of Elementary Schools (MSCES) has accredited Good Shepherd School for a seven-year term from December 2008 until December 2015. The accreditation process involved a rigorous 18-month self-study, a three-day visit by a team of professionals, and the development of an on-going goal oriented Strategic Plan for continued school improvement. Accreditation signifies that Good Shepherd School has met MSCES standards and that we have made a commitment to continue to provide the highest quality education for our students.

Good Shepherd offers a challenging, educational experience maximizing the potential of all its students spiritually, academically and socially. We recognize parents and teachers as partners in creating an environment in which students are presented an atmosphere to learn. Students are consistently recognized and awarded for their achievements at Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair, Pennsylvania Junior Science Fair Academy, Math 24 Challenge, Math Counts, National History Day, Diocesan Spelling and Geography Bees, Scholastic Art and Writing and South Central Pennsylvania Quiz Bowl.

Good Shepherd School offers extensive extracurricular activities, including Drama, Quiz Bowl Teams, Math 24 Challenge, Math Counts, Choir, Yearbook, Student Council and Enrichment Clubs.
